When you tell that chapter, does the weight sit on the loss itself, or on the life that came after?

Same chapter, different telling. Some people keep the weight on what was lost the whole way through. For others, the telling drifts toward the days that came after. This isn't an optimism score. Weight on the loss often means the thing was genuinely heavy, and weight on the after doesn't mean it stopped hurting. We only mark where the weight of your telling landed. We don't say where it should land.
