When there's a real price to pay, do you protect what you already have, or keep the possibility alive?

Saying “I want both” costs nothing. This axis only shows up in moments with a real price: when you could keep one thing but not both, did you hold on to what you already had, or to what might still happen? People who keep are afraid of losing. People who leave the door open are afraid of missing out. Both fears make sense. We look at the trade-off you told us about and which side you ended up holding.
